In and around Taupo

A few shots from our time in Taupo.

Similar to many cities/towns in New Zealand there are wall murals everywhere and more importantly - people do not graffiti them, which is pretty shocking, but also kind to the artist and visitor viewing them …

The Hole IN One was packed every day and anyone could challenge themselves to sink a ‘hole in one’. $50 for a bucket of 50 golf balls and use of any club. Get a hole in one on the floating barge and you win $10,000.00! The last winner was November 2024 so it clearly does not happen often enough - much I am sure to the happiness of the owner. Great concept and idea and as I say - it was jammed every time we walked by; men, women, kids, novices, and would-be pros!

The airplane is actually a McDonald play area - omg - I had to take the picture and wish I was small enough to get on board - what a great idea. It was here back in 2008 and clearly still a hit with the kids.

The big hike we did in Taupo was up Mount Tauhara, which was literally 3km straight up - we made it and there is Teddy - yeah! Some pictures of the views as it was panoramic of Taupo and we could not have had a better day - a fabulous hike!

And one last shot of Huka Falls - interesting factoid: 200,000 liters of water come over those falls every second - enough to fill 5 Olympic sized pools every second - damn!

Lastly, do not forget to ‘merge like a zipper’ - trust me, not as easy as you think and the photo doesn’t do it justice - they have 2 big zipper spots here and it is confusing when you drive on the right side of the car on the left side of the road - you just constantly look in every direction - quite funny actually seeing Ted and I do it …

Have a great day,

Robert and Ted

Great photos. Wonderful to see you both enjoying your trip so much. I’m in awe of the hikes you are doing - especially as I am recovering from a broken knee cap as I write! Take care and continue to have fun.
