Good Morning Everyone,
Well, our time in Taupo has come to an end and it was a great spot to spend New Years and a few days after. Our hotel was right across the beach along ‘The Strip’ that is known as ‘The Terrace’. It was hoping day and night and it was fun to be a part of it.
We walked the town, did two hikes, and went to Huka Falls, but our big disappointment was that the fireworks were cancelled New Years Eve due to high winds. Though they were rescheduled for New Years Day they were cancelled once again an hour before - due to high winds again :-(. No fireworks for Ted or I this year, but there was this nice energy down by the water as many hopefuls were there with us to with the off chance they would go off.
Today we head to Discovery Lodge where we are hoping to be able to do the Tongariro Crossing. We attempted it in 2016 and were not successful - due to high winds - (sensing a theme here) …So, send us your good wishes and hopefully Sunday we will be successful - photos to follow if we are.
I am writing today versus a longer post tomorrow as I just found out that there is no wifi at Discovery Lodge, so we will be out of contact for 5 days - whatever will Ted do lol - I guess we will find out - maybe relax and read … Here’s hoping we do have great weather so we can do shorter hikes prior to the big one.
Hope all is well with everyone back home and promise a longer post when we arrive in Napier after Discovery Lodge. And many photos, but had to leave you with this one - from Huka Falls on New Year’s Day … pretty impressive!
Cheers for 2025
Ted and Robert
So glad you continue to stay well and are able to achieve much of what you hoped for. Enjoy and keep sending those photos please
Is that you in the canoe?
